BUMP & BABY

Bump & Baby

8 in class 50 min mat & reformer babies up to 10 months welcome

Bump & Baby is our Pilates class for pregnant women and new mums, taught on the mat and on the reformer at our Lewisham studio. The work is gentle and supportive - core and pelvic floor strength, posture and full-body stability - with thoughtful modifications the whole way through, so the class meets you exactly where you are, bump or baby.

And your baby comes too, if you want them to - you don't need to find childcare to carve out this bit of time for yourself. Babies up to ten months old (or until they're crawling) are very welcome in the room: on a mat next to you, in a carrycot, or in their sling beside you. Feeding, soothing and crying are all completely normal here.

WHAT TO KNOW

What to know.

What to expect

A gentle, purposeful 50-minute class built for this stage of your life, not a regular class with a few swaps. Classes are capped at eight, so your teacher can genuinely watch how everyone's moving. Depending on which version you book you'll work on the mat or on the reformer, and the focus is the same either way: core and pelvic floor strength, posture, and the full-body stability that pregnancy and early motherhood ask the most of. It's gentle, but it's still real strength work - and with thoughtful modifications the whole way through, you work at whatever pace your body and your night's sleep allow.

Bringing your baby

Babies up to ten months old, or until they're crawling, come to class with you - on a mat beside you, asleep in a carrycot, or in their sling. If your baby needs feeding or a cuddle mid-class, that's what happens: you look after them right there beside you, and pick the class back up whenever you're both ready. Nobody minds, least of all the teacher.

After class

Half the point of Bump & Baby is the other mums you'll meet. After class there's coffee and a chat in our communal area (a dedicated one - most studios don't have that), and it's where classmates turn into friends. The early months can shrink your world a little; a coffee with local mums at the same stage does a lot to open it back up. See when Bump & Baby runs on the schedule.

QUESTIONS

About Bump & Baby.

What is Bump & Baby?

Bump & Baby is our Pilates class for pregnant women and new mums, taught on the mat and on the reformer at our studio in Lewisham. The work is gentle and supportive - core and pelvic floor strength, posture and full-body stability - with thoughtful modifications the whole way through, so the class meets you exactly where you are. Babies up to ten months old (or until they're crawling) are welcome in the room with you, and after class there's coffee and a chat with other local mums in our communal area.

Can I bring my baby to class?

Yes - that's the whole idea. Babies up to ten months old, or until they're crawling, are welcome in the room: on a mat next to you, in a carrycot, or in their sling beside you. You can stop to feed or soothe them whenever they need you, and you don't need to arrange childcare to come.

What if my baby cries or needs feeding?

Then you look after your baby, and the class carries on around you - feeding, soothing and crying are all completely normal at Bump & Baby. Tend to them right there beside your mat, and pick the class back up whenever you're both ready. Every mum in the room knows exactly what it's like, so there's nothing to feel awkward about.

Is it on the mat or the reformer?

Both - Bump & Baby runs as a Mat version and a Reformer version, and you can book whichever suits you, or mix the two. The equipment is the same as our regular Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates classes; the pace, the focus and the modifications are Bump & Baby's own. If you've never been on a reformer before, don't worry - your teacher will get you set up and comfortable before the work starts.

Can I come while I'm pregnant, and from when?

Yes - Bump & Baby is built for pregnancy as much as for the months after, and there's no set week you have to wait for. Whatever stage you're at, your teacher guides the work around it, with modifications the whole way through.

How soon after giving birth can I start?

Once you're at least six weeks postpartum and you've had your six-week check with your doctor, you're welcome in the room. That's the one rule we hold, and it's there to look after you. From there the modifications mean the class meets you exactly where you are, however recovery is going.

Can I bring the buggy?

Yes - there's space for buggies in our communal area during class. One practical note: there are stairs on the way into the building, so the easiest routine is to take your baby upstairs first (in the carrycot, if you're using one), then pop back down for the buggy.

Do I need to have done Pilates before?

No - Bump & Baby works whether this is your first ever Pilates class or you've practised for years. The modifications run the whole way through, so your teacher can make things gentler or more challenging depending on how you're feeling - and in pregnancy and the first months with a baby, that honestly changes week to week. Come as you are.

Does the intro offer cover Bump & Baby?

Yes - the intro offer is three classes for £33 over fourteen days, and Bump & Baby counts, on the mat or the reformer. After that, Bump & Baby sits inside the same memberships and pricing as everything else we teach - have a look at our pricing page when you're ready.
